Alessandro Del Piero is set to become the sporting director of second-tier Spanish side Mallorca.
An American takeover of the islanders by businessman Robert Sarver has seen a capital injection for the club, and Sarver is keen to raise the profile by hiring NBA star Steve Nash as an ambassador.
And, according to Spanish sports daily Marca , Nash has used his great friendship with Del Piero to convince the World Cup winner to come on board in a senior role.
The 41-year-old retired in 2015 after finishing his career with spells in Australia and India.
He looks set to replace current Mallorca sporting director Miguel Angel Nadal, the former Barcelona defender, who will be offered a board role.
