Del Piero turns 40: Why he’s still the coolest

Del Piero celebrates his 40th birthday today – and he’s still as cool as he was when he signed for Juve in 1993.

Alessandro Del Piero turns 40-years-old today, yet the eloquent Italian legend still speaks about the football elite with the grace and respect of a young understudy.

It was 21 years ago that Del Piero signed for Juventus, and until departing for Sydney in 2012, he stuck with them for 19 seasons, helping them bounce back up from Serie B.

He still remembers that first day:

“Signing the first contract with Juventus was the start of everything. It almost scares me to think of how much my life changed in that magical moment, when I made my dream come true,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport this weekend.

But there’s more to Del Piero than football, here’s why he’s the coolest…

Del Piero is good mates with Noel Gallagher, and has even introduced the former Oasis guitarist at some of his solo gigs.

He also released an album called “Alessandro Del Piero: Selections” which was basically just a compilation of music he liked. Here’s the tracklisting.

1. Wonderwall 2. Not That Kind 3. Faith 4. I’m Glad 5. Fu-Gee-La 6. Bootylicious 7. Right Here, Right Now
 8. Sunday Shining 9. If You Let Me Stay 10. Me, Myself And I 11. I Try 12. Virtual Insanity 13. Thursday’s Child
