As many things in life, the guys in the video below found out the Magnus Effect by an accident.
They were standing on top of the Gordon Dam in Tasmania, Australia with one purpose – to break the world record for the longest basketball shot. This dam is 126.5 meters (or 315 feet) high, and a little spoiler alert – they succeeded. Little did they expect the next bizarre thing to happen: as one of them dropped the ball (didn’t even throw it!) below with a slight backspin, it literally took off.
Why? Listen to the explanation by Derek Muler from Veritasium. Were you guys aware of this effect? Let us know, and please SHARE this video with your friends on Facebook if you enjoyed watching it!
